Quick description
Place two chairs on the stage and ask the audience where they are. Play a scene in that location using the chairs.
How to Play
The players take two chairs place them on the stage and ask the audience, “Where are these chairs?”
The players improvise a scene based on the location suggested by the audience.
The chairs can be in any relationship: side by side, one behind the other, facing each other…etc.
Variation
I first saw this as a timed challenge. The players were doing as many short scenes as they could within two minutes.
The scenes ended when the audience laughed or when the players themselves determined the scene was over.
After each short scene the players would rearrange the chairs and again ask the audience, “Where are these chairs?”
It reminds me of freeze tag because of its quick start-and-stop quality.
Origin
This game was introduced to me by Tim Orr of BATS Improv who said it was inspired by Dave Razowsky.
Update: Dave Razowsky wrote to me to say that it is his game and is the format he uses when he performs with Carrie Clifford.
