How to Play
The basic concept: a scene is performed 3 ways, with increasing levels of intensity. Taking it up to the next level each time.
Instruct the performers to play the scene as usual, but warn them to keep their reactions small (perhaps a 2 or 3 on scale of 10).
After there is a bit of material (1 min, 2min?), stop them, and ask them to redo the scene, as closely as possible, but this time their reactions should be about a 5 or 6 on scale of 10.
Let the scene run a bit further, then stop, and have them do it a 3rd time at a 10 intensity.
Note
It works really nicely, if the initial scene has opportunity for a variety of reactions (i.e. angry, sad, surprised), which all are amplified later, usually to good results.
Dave says that he usually does this as a scene starting at home; the husband comes home, for example.
