How to Play
Each player asks the audience for a different genre (playwright, style of story or film director). This will create multiple genres on stage. They play a scene together while each player stays true to their genre.
Genre is a French word meaning “category” or “type.” The choice of genre reflect’s the writer’s point of view towards his subject. The two oldest genres, dating back to the fifth century BCE, are tragedy and comedy.
Origin
I saw this first performed at BATS Improv by Corey Rosen and team during a Theatersports™ match. They used the playwrights Neil Simon, Tennessee Williams and David Mamet. It was wonderful to watch the actors interact and build a single story from within their different styles.
