A rich history
In nearly every culture, the mask is a dramatic part of storytelling and ceremonial tradition. In his workshops, William Hall uses the knowledge gained from over thirty years of research, construction, performing and teaching to help actors access a deep reservoir of behavior, experience, and physical expression.
What students say about Hall’s mask workshop
Instead of finding that the mask was a limiting factor, it allowed me to go deeper into my body and the feelings felt there.
This work will challenge you to take risks and develop stronger tools for character development. Hall provides a supportive atmosphere for exploration.
It was an amazingly cathartic experience.
Students are surprised by the discoveries they make while working with Hall.
While wearing the mask, a subtle gesture can convey such strong messages.
It is liberating to play someone who is so clearly not you… while still bringing your understanding to the character.
The mask is your permission to be someone you didnât even know existed.
If you have never done this work, this is an opportunity to transform your character creation skills. If you have done it, this is a chance to investigate new possibilities.
Going into the workshop, I had a vague sense of ‘stuck energy’ and frustration. I had no idea how intense these feelings were until they were released by being in the mask.

It was great fun. I want to do it again.
