Quick Description
On virtual calls each person gives an assignment to another person until everyone has an assignment. The assignment is to find something in their house. Players are given 1 minute to search for something that satisfies the assignment. Players show the object to the camera and one-by-one explain why it fits the category.
How to Play Find This
The leader starts by calling the name of someone on the call and gives them something to find in their home.
That person calls the name of someone else on the call and gives them something to find in their home
This continues until everyone has an assignment.
The assignments can be anything. For example find:
- something tiny.
- something you’ve had for years.
- something that was given to you.
- something that reminds you of your youth.
Anything is good for an assignment.
They players are given 1 minute to search their house for something that fits the assignment.
When 1 minute is complete. The players show what they’ve found to the camera.
One by one they explain what they found and why it fits into the category.
Notes
- Keep the mood playful it’s not a competition.
- Change the rules to suit the situation and players. For example, if someone expresses reluctance about the assignment, you could ask for another assignment.
- It feels a little like a scavenger hunt, but it’s really a game about engagement, movement and sharing something personal.
Variations
Put people into smaller groups in breakout rooms and ask them to create a story that involves the objects they found.
Ask the participants to find something that relates to the topic of the meeting or training. Then explain why it relates.
When to use this activity:
- Use it as an ice breaker at the beginning of a meeting. You can even start it before everyone arrives. Late comers will catch on quickly.
- Use it to break up a meeting and get participants up and moving.
- Use it to talk about increasing trust in the group by sharing something personal
- Use it as a collaborative storytelling activity.
