How To Play
Each player asks audience members for a driver’s license (or other form of photo ID).
Players assume the facial expression from the photo ID and improvise the scene.
Variations
- Have the players switch IDs at some point during the scene. The Host or players can call “Switch.”
- Each player gets 2 photo IDs and they switch between the two faces when they want.
Note
Carry the license with you and look at it frequently to remind yourself of the expression.
The photo acts as a mask for the performers.
This game has limited appeal for players and audiences. It can be played every once in a while… but I can’t recommend it be played often. There can be comedy in the situations because of the contrast between the action and the lack of reaction on the face of the players.
There is a similar game which is a variation of “Pillars.” Audience members are asked to give the players their facial expressions from time to time. For example, two audience members stand on either side of the stage. During the improvised scene, the actors will look to the audience members. The audience members will make a face. The players mimic that face and continue to improvise the scene. In many cases, they will have to justify the expression on their face. [See Pillars-Faces.]
