Quick Description
Players improvise a song. The conductor indicates which players is singing. Hence the name Conducted Song.
How to Play
Three or more players stand in a row facing the audience. A player kneels facing them, he/she is the conductor. The conductor points to a player and they sing, when the conductor points to another player the singing must immediately switch to that player.
Notes
It helps if you have an experienced keyboard improviser.
Like conducted story but with a song.
Variation
Walt Frazer from NYC wrote in that he (and his group) perform a variation on this game:
Each player gets a suggestion of a current topic (or gets an actual headline from the newspaper). The players present each idea in a musical theme. Once a ‘headline’ has been introduced the headline is repeated in a softer voice until all the headlines have been introduced. The players then ‘mash’ up the words and ideas to create new headlines to sing. Walt says that they do this a cappella.
Thanks for the addition Walt, sounds fun. Sort of a News-Madrigal-Mash-up! ~William
