Quick Description
Players improvise a scene and when a caller shorts out, “Bust A Rhyme” the last player who poke must rap 4 lines.
How to Play
Players start a scene and from time to time someone calls out “Bust A Rhyme” and the last player who spoke raps for 4 lines.
Note
This works well when you don’t have a musician and because the lines are so short, everyone gets several turns rapping.
The caller can be an MC/Host or other players (in Theatresports™ it might be the other team).
The player can rap as if it’s an inner monologue.
This is a ‘trigger’ style game. When _____ happens, the players must ______.
Variations
Shift from normal speaking to Rap with the dinging of a bell.
Bust A Rhyme is a variation of “Ding-and-Sing” and “Inner Song-a-logue,” which are already in The Playbook: Improv Games for Performers.
Origin
This games was brought to us by Dennis Crumley from his Improv Class at The College of Marin, taught by Paul Killam.
